Well, there's a 'sold' sign out in front of the house now, so reality is setting in.

We've (well Katie's done 90% of it) been packing and moving some of our stuff into a storage unit. It's looking like we're going to try to move out on Memorial Day weekend, or thereabouts.

It looks like we're meeting with J (the builder) later this week. He's got the floor plan for the second floor done, and is working on the elevations.

It's been a busy week!

We had inspections last night, the termite inspector this morning, and a meeting late this afternoon.

J (the builder) and L (his designer-type person) had the preliminary floor plan for the main floor done (we're building a story-and-a-half), and they pretty much nailed what we were looking for. We've got a couple revisions to do, and J has to lay out the upper level and elevations. We're meeting mid-week next week to look over those.

Things Are Moving Along.......

Whew.

This is moving faster than I ever thought it would. We've got an inspection scheduled for tomorrow night, and a preliminary close date of 6/1, with the buyer taking possession on the fourth day after close.

We meet with J (our builder) on Thursday at 5:00 to take a look at the plans.

I'm not working this Friday, so I'll be working on renting a storage unit and starting to move some of our stuff.

I'm not sure what this means for our scheduled vacation in South Carolina in mid-June. I guess that'll depend on what our preliminary building schedule looks like - I'm leaning toward cancelling it, but we'll see.

Signed, sealed, and almost delivered.

Our second-time viewers from yesterday were apparently interested in our home. I received a call from T (the realtor) last night at 9:00, telling me that we would be receiving an offer. The offer came this afternoon, and it was pretty close to our asking price, so at 4:00 this afternooon, we signed the papers to accept the offer.

Six days on the market. Not too shabby. Way to go, T!

Our First Repeat Viewers

This morning at 9:00, we've got a some folks going through our home for the second time. I guess we'll see what happens. Last night, we booked another showing for Monday at 6:00. Considering that there are no photos of the house online yet, T (our realtor) is doing a pretty good job getting the word out.

We had another showing today. I'm guessing that, since our home has three bedrooms and the folks that went through it were looking for four, we shouldn't hold our breath on this one.

We've got another showing tomorrow morning. It's a second showing for somebody who went through it on Tuesday.

The Journey Begins

Background: Katie and I have been living in our current home since we've been married (July 2001), a home that I purchased in August 2000. A couple years ago, we purchased another piece of property. After much debate, we've decided that now's the time to sell the current home, and build a new home on our property. Just for kicks, I'm going to blog on the process.

Last Friday, April 10, we signed a listing agreement with a realtor, who we'll call T, to sell the house. On Monday, April 6 our home was listed on the MLS, and we received three requests to view it on Tuesday. Two of the prospective buyers actually showed, the third had something come up. One of the two who went through our home is going to go through it again on Saturday morning. In addition, we have one or two more showings tomorrow. I'm not sure what to think.

As far as the new home, Katie and I met with who I think will be our builder, who we'll call J, this past Tuesday night, and looked through plans. Katie and I were looking through separate books, and ended up picking out the same plan. After sketching out a couple changes, J left and is working on the floor plan and elevations. He should be done in roughly a week.

Here we go!
